What we'll need to know

We need some basic information to help with a claim so it's a good idea to collect at the scene of the incident;

  • Who was driving the car at the time?
  • Your policy number or the registration number of the car we insure
  • The contact details, car registration and insurance details of anyone else involved.
  • The contact details of any witnesses or Gardaí (or other police, if abroad).
  • Photos of your car and the other car(s) involved (if possible and it is safe to take them).

What we'll do to help

This is where we step in to take care of some of those difficult tasks, such as:

  • Sending a tow truck to collect your car if it can't be driven away.
  • Fixing your car using our Aviva Motor Services nationwide network of repair garages.
  • Giving you a courtesy car for up to seven days while yours is being fixed.
  • Bringing back your car to you once all repairs have been completed, cleaned inside and out.

How to make a car insurance claim

We believe in keeping things simple so our claims process couldn't be easier. Just follow these steps:

Tell us what happened

Call us on 1800 147 147 - we're here at any time of the day or night - and give us the details of the incident. We'll also need your policy number to get your claim started, so it's a good idea to have that handy.

Step 2

We'll review your claim

We look at your claim and work out how best to help you. That means reviewing any photos or documents you have sent us as part of your claim and asking you for details of anyone else involved. We'll also let you know if you have to pay any excess - this is the first part of any claim that you pay. We'll pay for the rest.

Step 3 of 1

We'll get things sorted

We don't waste any time getting your claim resolved. Depending on your cover, we organise repairs to get you back on the road using Aviva Motor Services (the easiest and fastest way to get your car repaired) or a garage of your choice. If your car can't be fixed we'll work with you to settle the claim.
