Aviva, in collaboration with Citroën, have given Michelle and Steve Riddett, along with their two children, Emma and Alex the adventure of a lifetime: a 10-day road trip around the breathtaking landscapes of Ireland in a Citroën C5 Aircross ë-Series Plug-In Hybrid with car insurance provided by Aviva.
Day seven of the Riddett family’s Great Aviva Road Trip took them on a creative and nostalgic journey as they visited the Toy Soldier Factory in County Cork. After a week filled with outdoor adventures, the family was excited to slow down a bit and dive into a hands-on experience that combined history, art, and a whole lot of fun.
A Warm Welcome to the Toy Soldier Factory
Arriving at the Toy Soldier Factory in their trusty Citroën C5 Aircross ë-Series Plug-In Hybrid, the Riddetts were greeted with the same warm hospitality they’ve come to love on their journey. The factory, a charming family business owned and run by Joan and Lars, immediately made the family feel at home. Lars shared that the factory was originally started by his father, a legacy that he and Joan are proudly continuing.
The Riddetts were fascinated by the history behind the Toy Soldier Factory. It was clear that this wasn’t just a business—it was a passion project passed down through generations, with every toy soldier telling a story of tradition and craftsmanship.
A Creative Family Workshop
The highlight of the day was a special workshop where the Riddetts had the chance to make and paint their own toy soldiers. Guided by Joan and Lars, the family was able to see firsthand how each piece is carefully crafted, from the pouring of the moulds to the delicate painting process.
Emma and Alex were especially excited to get creative, carefully choosing colours and designs for their soldiers. Steve and Michelle joined in too, relishing the opportunity to bond over something new and creative. As they worked, Joan and Lars shared stories about the factory’s history and the joy it brings to families who visit from all over the world.
It was a unique experience that allowed the Riddetts to slow down and enjoy a quieter, more creative side of their road trip. By the end of the workshop, they each had a beautifully painted toy soldier to take home—a lasting memento of their visit and a reminder of the special day they spent together.
A Family Business with Heart
The Riddetts were truly impressed by the dedication and passion that Joan and Lars bring to their work. The Toy Soldier Factory is more than just a place to create—it’s a space where memories are made, and traditions are kept alive. The family felt privileged to be a part of that legacy, even if just for a day.
As they packed up their new toy soldiers and prepared to leave, the Riddetts couldn’t help but reflect on how much they’d learned and experienced in such a short time. They left with a deep appreciation for the artistry and history that goes into every toy soldier crafted at the factory.
Ready for the Road Ahead
With their Citroën C5 Aircross ë-Series Plug-In Hybrid loaded up with new memories and their new keepsakes the Riddett family hit the road once again. The car had been the perfect transport vehicle for their journey so far, offering both comfort and sustainability as they explored Ireland’s many hidden gems.
