Aviva, in collaboration with Citroën, have given Michelle and Steve Riddett, along with their two children, Emma and Alex the adventure of a lifetime: a 10-day road trip around the breathtaking landscapes of Ireland in a Citroën C5 Aircross ë-Series Plug-In Hybrid and their car insurance provided by Aviva.
Day four of the Riddett family’s Great Aviva Road Trip took them to the heart of County Cork, where they discovered the delights of Leahy’s Open Farm. After a thrilling day of adventure at Castlecomer Discovery Park, the family was eager to experience a different kind of fun in the form of farm activities and attractions.
Exploring Leahy’s Open Farm
Leaving Waterford behind, the Riddetts made their way to Leahy’s Open Farm, nestled in the picturesque Cork countryside. From the moment they arrived, it was clear this wasn’t just any farm. The number of activities on offer both indoors and outdoors left the family amazed and excited to get stuck in.
First up was the Mystery Maze, where Emma and Alex raced through the winding paths, laughing, and competing to see who could find the exit first. The Barrel Train was next, a quirky ride that took the family on a fun tour around the farm, offering a unique view of the surroundings.
The petting zoo was a hit with everyone. Emma and Alex loved getting up close and personal with the animals, feeding and petting them while learning more about farm life. The museum provided a fascinating glimpse into the past, showcasing the history of the farm and the family who made it all possible.
One of the highlights for Emma was getting her hair braided while Alex couldn’t get enough of the zip lining and adventure park.
No visit to Leahy’s Open Farm would be complete without indulging in some of their famous treats. The Riddetts made sure to stop by the ice cream and chocolate factory, where they enjoyed delicious, freshly made ice cream—an instant hit with the whole family.
A Chat with the Legendary Farmer Eddie
One of the most memorable moments of the day came when the family met farmer Eddie, the heart and soul of Leahy’s Open Farm. Eddie, along with his wife Eileen, started the farm many moons ago, turning it into the beloved family destination it is today.
The Riddetts were captivated by Eddie’s stories, learning about how he was born in a cottage that still stands at the very centre of the farm. Eddie proudly shared that all seven of his children and more than 20 grandchildren and great-grandchildren live nearby, keeping the legacy of the farm alive and thriving.
Another Day, Another Adventure
As the day at Leahy’s Open Farm came to an end the Riddetts talked animatedly about the days experience. From the fun-filled activities to the warm, welcoming atmosphere, it was a day they wouldn’t forget. “We couldn’t get over how many different activities there were to do there, and we really recommend a visit,” Michelle said.
